SCB Receives 2,000 Tons of Carbon Credits from Mae Fah Luang Foundation. Promoting the LIVE SUSTAINABLY Concept to Empower Communities in Forest Conservation and Climate Action

Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), represented by Mr. Yunyong Thaicharoen, Chief Economist and Sustainability Officer, received a certificate for 2,000 tons of carbon credits from the "You Care for the Forest, We Care for You: Carbon Credit Management in Forests for Sustainable Development Project" by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.

SCB has participated in this initiative since 2020, supporting the development of systems for measuring, evaluating, and managing carbon credits in community forests. The bank's involvement aims to encourage forest stewardship while improving the quality of life in a balanced and sustainable way.

The 2,000 tons of carbon credits were calculated based on SCB's support for targeted community forest areas between 2020 and 2024, including Ban Pa Sang Doi Kaew Community Forest and Ban Huai Mak Eak Nuea Community Forest in Chiang Rai.

Together, these forests span over 1,390 rai. SCB uses the carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions from its activities under the Carbon Neutral Event framework, contributing to climate change mitigation. The initiative also helps build resilient communities and create stable, sustainable income sources for local residents.

This certification from the Mae Fah Luang Foundation further underscores SCB's commitment to leading the transition toward a low-carbon economy and sustainable development in Thailand. Through socially responsible corporate activities that protect the environment and enhance the quality of life, SCB continues to champion the "Live Sustainably" concept—believing that sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires collective goals, ripple effects, and collaboration to build a future where everyone can thrive.

The 2,000 tons of carbon credits are equivalent to:
  • Carbon absorption by over 210,500 trees per year (based on a carbon sequestration rate of 9.5 kg/tree/year under TGO's T-VER standard)
  • Carbon emissions from 2–3 large-scale concerts or exhibitions with tens of thousands of attendees
  • Annual emissions from over 400 personal vehicles (based on an average of 15,000 km driven per car per year)
