In a class of its own – Thailand leads Asia with the launch of the all new fully electric Volvo ES90
Volvo Car Thailand has unveiled the new Volvo ES90, a groundbreaking addition to its premium portfolio that redefines versatility and innovation in modern mobility. The ES90 seamlessly blends the refined elegance of a sedan, the adaptability of a fastback, and the spacious interior and higher ground clearance associated with SUVs. Designed for bigger adventures and families, it strikes the perfect balance between professional and private life, enabling drivers to embrace life’s special moments.
Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Thailand and Malaysia said, “the Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car that elevates everyday life. It also reinforces our position as an industry leader in software-defined vehicles powered by core computing, while strengthening our balanced portfolio of premium, electrified models in Thailand. With more than 50 years of heritage in the market, Volvo Car Thailand remains deeply committed to delivering innovation, safety, and sustainable premium mobility, the values that have made us a trusted brand for Thai consumers for generations.
Look at the Volvo ES90 in profile and what immediately stands out is the car’s confident and distinctive stance, with a slightly raised ride height to provide the driver with a more commanding view of the road. The flowing roofline balances elegant looks with interior space and contributes to excellent aerodynamics, boosting overall efficiency and electric range.
The front features Thor’s Hammer headlight design, expressing a familiar yet modern Volvo identity. The rear is equally distinctive, with new C-shaped LED rear lamps complemented by LED lamps in the rear window, creating a unique welcome and farewell light sequence. When picking their Volvo ES90, customers can choose from five exterior colours including the new Aurora Silver color.
The large and wide tailgate hatch makes loading and unloading family luggage or gear for any activity effortless. The boot offers up to 446 litres of space, which can be expanded to 904 litres when all three rear seats, foldable individually (40/20/40) are lowered. The 27-litre capacity frunk at the front is perfect for the charging cables.
Inside, the focus is on premium comfort, authentic materials and purpose-driven design, in line with Volvo’s Scandinavian identity and design principles. The long wheelbase of 3.1 metre provides generous legroom for second-row passengers, making an exceptionally comfortable place to travel for adults as well as children. Six interior ambient light themes enhance sensory well-being, while ventilated Nappa leather upholstery in Charcoal and Dawn allow users to personalise the Volvo ES90 to their taste.
The Volvo ES90 also features a panoramic roof that provides UV protection of up to 99.9 per cent with the electrochromic, the glass transparency can be adjusted, allowing passengers to ‘turn down’ the sun a bit to reduce glare and boost privacy at the touch of a button.
Added support comes from a four-zone climate system with an advanced air purifier. It can stop up to 95 per cent of PM 2.5 particulates from entering the cabin and remove 99.9 per cent of grass, tree and pollen allergens.
The Volvo ES90 is crafted for superior sound comfort, with exceptionally low noise levels that make it one of Volvo’s quietest cabins ever. This allows both driver and passenger to enjoy the top-of-the-line Bowers & Wilkins sound system, which features 25 high-fidelity speakers delivering 1,610 watts throughout the cabin, including headrest and ceiling speakers. The system also features the lifelike spatial audio of Dolby Atmos® that delivers an immersive sound experience. Exclusive to the Bowers & Wilkins system is a special mode replicating the sounds of London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.
The Volvo ES90 is equipped with a new-generation infotainment system with Google built-in, which includes services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and more apps on Google Play. Powered by the Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies, the 5G-capable system is seamless and responsive, delivering all the driving-critical information drivers need, exactly when they need it, through the 9-inch driver display and head-up display.
The 14.5-inch centre screen display, meanwhile, gives driver an access to navigation, entertainment, climate, phone functions and more. To assist with tight parking situations, the Volvo ES90 is also equipped with a new 3D view supported by a 360-degree camera, giving drivers confidence and support when they need it most.
Regular improvement as standard
The Volvo ES90 is built on the SPA2 architecture, based on Volvo Cars’ Superset tech stack - a unified set of hardware and software modules that will underpin all upcoming Volvo electric cars. This platform enables continuous improvements in performance and safety technologies throughout the car’s lifecycle, with enhancements rolled out quickly via over-the-air updates across all models based on the Superset.
The Volvo ES90 is the first Volvo car to be equipped with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, making it the most powerful Volvo car ever in terms of core computing capacity. This advanced system enables Volvo Cars to further raise the bar on safety and overall performance through data, software, and AI.
The Volvo ES90 also represents the latest in terms of electric systems and battery technology. The new 800-volt technology makes its debut in the Volvo ES90, helping to unlock faster charging, a better overall performance and more efficiency. The Volvo ES90 offers a driving range of up to 755 kilometres* under the NEDC testing cycle.
The 800-volt system also contains lighter e-motors and other components, which reduces the car’s overall weight. This also improves the system’s efficiency, while boosting the car’s acceleration and driving range, resulting in a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.25, acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 6.6 seconds.
Sustainability in focus
However, battery technology is not the only area in which the Volvo ES90 is a star performer. It also helps Volvo Cars make progress in other sustainability-related areas. For example, the ES90 is packed with recycled and natural materials that contribute to lower CO2 emissions in production. 29 per cent of all aluminium and 18 per cent of all steel used in the ES90 is recycled, while the Volvo ES90 also contains 16 per cent recycled polymers and bio-based materials. The wood panels inside the Volvo ES90 are made from FSC-certified wood.
This being a Volvo, the Volvo ES90 is designed to help protect everyone in and around the car. Developed to meet the rigorous Volvo Cars Safety Standard which built on 55 years of real-world safety research and exceeding official testing requirements, the Volvo ES90 together with its powerful core computers, marks the continuation of Volvo Cars’s new era of safety.
The Volvo ES90 comes with a strong safety cage, state-of-the-art restraint systems, as well as optimised deformation zones. The active safety systems are powered by an advanced array of sensors including five radars, seven cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a lidar from Luminar Technologies.
This sensor set enables vision beyond human range to help avoid collisions and hazards on the road. The Volvo ES90 also has our pioneering driver understanding system as standard, which can detect when the driver’s attention is no longer focused on the road and step in to support.
The Safe Space Technology in the Volvo ES90 provides protection not only while driving but also when parked. A door opening alert helps safeguard cyclists and pedestrians pass by when the doors are opened.
